A great feature of RedEyeDMS is the ability to link artefacts to each other, enabling you to see the bigger picture and create relationships between associated data. For example, you may find it convenient to link an arrangement drawing with its sub-assemblies, or upload and link a photograph to a drawing.
You can view Linked Artefacts from sidebar on the Artefact Page.
Link and Unlink Artefacts
To start linking artefacts, click on the Link icon to be taken to the Bulk Link Search page.
Perform Searches, and click the check boxes of the artefacts to be linked from those results so that they are added to My Collection. If you change your mind halfway through you can click Cancel on the yellow ribbon to abandon the activity.
Once all artefacts that you want to link have been added to My Collection, click the Collection icon at bottom right and click Confirm at the bottom of the next page to finalise the link process.
Once you have confirmed the link action you will be returned to the Artefact Details page, and the new Linked Artefacts will be visible in the sidebar. Linked Artefacts are displayed by artefact ID (ascending) regardless of the order of selection.
From here, you can also Unlink Artefacts by clicking the Unlink icon.
NOTE: Only linked artefacts to which your User roles have Search access for can be unlinked.
Upload and Link
To upload one or more new artefacts and immediately link them to the artefact you are currently viewing, click the Upload & Link icon.
Note: This is dependent on Bucket Upload Role restrictions
This button will launch what looks like the standard Upload page - you can tell that you are on the Upload & Link variant by the URL mentioning Upload/Link/ (pictured)
In this case the uploaded artefacts in this upload job are automatically linked to the artefact that the tool was launched from once the upload process completes - follow the prompts to select the file/s as per the Upload V3 article that you want to upload and automatically link (Upload Role restrictions apply)
Files will be uploaded as normal, and automatically linked to your artefact. Refresh the artefact browser page if the linked artefact detail isn't updated immediately.
Linked Artefacts and Fold-in
If an artefact with linked artefacts is processed as a duplicate in the Cleanup Tool and subsequently folded in, the linked artefacts will then cease to be linked to the folded artefact.
This is because artefacts that are linked are done so using the artefact ID. When a duplicate artefact is folded in, the resulting new artefact has a completely different artefact ID. This means that the new artefact will need to be re-linked to its previously linked artefacts.
