RedEye enables users to perform Concurrent Engineering with the Child Artefact feature. Any child or parent artefacts will appear under the related tab in artefact page as related artefacts.
Child Artefacts enable you to continue to operate your assets with your existing As-Built drawings, while concurrently making changes to a "project version" artefact through Design and Construction phases. Ultimately, when construction activities are complete and the Child Artefacts becomes As-Built, it will automatically supersede its Parent Artefact. This article will focus on the steps to create a new Child Artefact from a single drawing.
To create Child Artefacts in Bulk, see the article here.
To create a Child Drawing, first locate the artefact the Parent artefact from the Search Interface and open its Artefact Page.
NOTE: A drawing must be in an appropriately configured Workflow to create a Child Drawing from it. From here, click the Create New Child Drawing button from the Workflow drop down in the Workflow bar.
NOTE: If you do not have the capability to perform this from an As-Built workflow, your bucket may not have been configured to include the Child Drawings feature, or you may not have Permission. Refer to your system administrator if you want to discuss this more.
A dialogue box will be presented. Select a Workflow for the Child Drawing, then a Group (usually a Project group created specifically for the upgrade project and team roles), and input any relevant Comments. Click Create Artefact when complete.
A new Child Drawing will be created, with an artefact number that has been configured for your bucket (adding a suffix to Parent number to clearly identify it as a Child)
You may work on this new Child Drawing independently, though you will notice that it is always linked to the Parent Artefact for notification purposes.
In the Search Interface, you can now see the two artefacts that are currently active. For example, the Child Drawing is active and is currently a Construction workflow, while the Parent artefact remains at the As-Built workflow.
When you Approve the Child Drawing through to an As-Built workflow status, it will automatically Supersede its Parent Artefact, and Child be automatically changed to a workflow as dictated by the organisation (usually Archived). Any photos pinned to Child Drawing markups during the Child's lifecycle will also be added to the Parent Linked tab automatically, for future reference.
The Child Drawing will remain in the Bucket, and can be found through both the Parent Artefact (per above) and the Search Interface (using the workflow status as mentioned above)
Child Artefact notifications
Users working on child artefacts will receive an email notification if any changes have been made to the parent artefact - possibly from maintenance activity drawing updates or other concurrent child drawings superseding the parent. It is often common for multiple discipline teams to be upgrading different elements of the same functional location (eg. a power substation) at the same time, involving common drawings such as P&IDs etc. The notification of Parent changes is so the user can factor in the changes to their work on the child artefact, if required.
Note: The remaining active Child drawing is NOT automatically updated - only For Information notifications, the onus is on the engineering team to conduct their own due diligence.
Users working on various child artefacts will not be notified if changes are made to sibling artefacts. The user may check the 'Related' tab of the artefact page and click through to any parent or sibling artefacts.
