What is Object linking and embedding?
Object linking and embedding is a way to use information from one application in another application.
"Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) is a Microsoft Windows feature that allows you to copy or move information from one application to another while you retain the ability to edit the information in the original application. Basically, OLE combines data from different applications into one document. For example, you can create an AutoCAD® Architecture drawing that contains all or part of a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet."

Viewing ACAD Images in DMS
Using images in AutoCAD (JPEG or BMP) drawings is a common practice to make the drawing content relevant and effective. However the ACAD platform is not free from technical hiccups. Users commonly face issues while embedding, inserting, or importing image files in their drawings and this can transfer to DMS when file is uploaded.
How to Fix Logo Not Displaying
A common problem users experience when uploading CAD files to RedEyeDMS with image file content is that the image may not display in the drawing if the OLE image file in the .dwg is not inserted using the recommended AutoCAD method (as below).
The recommended method to embed an image into a .dwg:
How to avoid this problem
Solution: To resolve AutoCAD image within the AutoCAD environment (JPEG or BMP) to re-embed the image into the AutoCAD drawing.
- Open the JPEG/BMP image in Microsoft Paint, Snag it, Adobe Photoshop, or other image-viewing file application
- Select the image and copy the image to clipboard
- Go to AutoCAD, use the Paste Special select source option As: Paintbrush Picture
While DMS is supportive of image files it is important to understand this AutoCAD technique allows draft users to embed image files using AutoCAD because AutoCAD can have its own technical difficulties, and this will help reduce the transfer of issues from AutoCAD to DMS.
